Short Bio

I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Information Engineering and a member of IAS-Lab at the University of Padua, where I lead the Machine Intelligence Group (MIG). I am also a Visiting Professor of L-CAS at the University of Lincoln.

I hold a Laurea in Electronic Engineering from the University of Padua and a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Essex. Before returning to Padua, I was an Associate Professor at the University of Lincoln and, earlier, a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Oxford. I also have several years of industry experience developing and programming embedded systems.

My research focuses on AI for robotics and intelligent systems, spanning low-level machine perception to high-level semantic understanding and reasoning. This includes methods for causal inference, multi-sensor data fusion, active vision, and qualitative spatial representation.

I have received national and international funding, including the EU projects ENRICHME, FLOBOT, and DARKO, as well as a Google Faculty Research Award. I am an IEEE Senior Member and have served as General Chair of the BMVA Computer Vision Summer School (2017) and the European Conference on Mobile Robots (2025).

More details are available on my group’s page.
